The History :
The School of Excellence in Liluah was birthed by the tireless efforts of the IJM family during the year 2006- 2007. This school provided the opportunity of bringing hope and healing to survivors of great trauma as well as be able to work alongside one of the neediest & biggest correctional facilities in West Bengal.
As the work of IJM grew and their focus was concentrated on rescue and legal aid for survivors of trafficking, they handed over the School of Excellence to the JKPS team in the year 2008- 2009. JKPS journeyed with this work till the year 2013.
In the year 2013- 2014, the KCF family prayerfully began our journey with the School of Excellence.
The present story : The primary focus of the school has been to prepare survivors to reintegrate back to their homes & societies when they leave the correctional facility. To accomplish this the school provides two key components to each survivor:
I. Non- Formal educational Component :
This is the section in which we help enhance :
of each of our students.
The idea behind providing these subjects is to help our survivors develop skills that will help them manage many personal details in their journey toward independent living.
II. Vocational Training Component :

Story of a Braveheart :
Ruma and her 7 year old son were at the Liluah Home for almost 3 years. During her time there she attended our School of Excellence. She enjoyed all of her classes but was very gifted in beautician skills & was extremely grateful for the course. Upon her departure from the home we were happy to hear that she has been using her beautician training to help support her family.
One aspect of Ruma’s courage that we will never forget is that on her release, she was instrumental in rescuing a family member from the very situation that had bound her. A local Bengali newspaper carried an article on Ruma and her bravery. This article also highlights the fact that she was using her beautician training skills to help support her family. (Newspaper clipping below).
Stories like this are a great encouragement to us and at the same time they remind us of the impact we can have on many like Ruma who walk through our doors.
